People Power Director, Micah Posner, receives United Way's Community Hero Award
This past fall, People Power director Micah Posner was named a Community Hero in the Natural Environment category by United Way's Community Assessment Project (CAP), which honors individuals "whose efforts help move Santa Cruz County toward the achievement of community goals."
Specifically, our goal of "reducing single-passenger automobile use, improving cyclist safety, increasing miles of bike lanes and increasing use of public transportation by the year 2010" was lauded by this respected organization. About 15 other award recipients were celebrated at an awards ceremony on November 24th in Watsonville.
The award for our director is also an acknowledgement of all the amazing volunteers that make People Power so effective. It also is an acknowledgement of the generosity of our members--especially during these hard times--that allows our small staff to devote ourselves to our collective goals. With 500 members, People Power is making a major change in how we view mobility and our built environment. We are encouraged that the very broad nominating committee of the United Way understands and recognizes our work.
Congratulations to all of us for this award!
